– from recent expose on its ‘shadow’ Finance Minister
PRESS and Publicity Officer at the Office of the President Mr. Kwame McCoy is accusing the Alliance For Change (AFC) political party of trying to “distract Guyanese” from the recent expose of its shadow Finance Minister Mr. Sasenarine Singh who was accused of (allegedly) taking bribes from a city businessman two days ago. McCoy was at the time responding to a story published on the Demerara Waves (DW) website yesterday, titled: ‘AFC condemns shady characters outside party offices’.
According to the Demerara Waves story, the AFC issued a statement denouncing in the “strongest possible terms, the suspicious movements outside the office of AFC parliamentarian Mr. David Patterson by dubious and shady characters.”
The party claimed that earlier Wednesday, around 13:00 hrs (1 PM), two persons, one of whom gave his name as David Williams was caught taking unauthorized photos of Mr. Patterson’s office at Durban Backlands.
The DW story went on to say that the individuals mentioned were seen inside McCoy’s house at Diamond New Scheme a few weekends ago.
But McCoy, in a statement late yesterday, said it is absolutely clear that “the AFC is once again trying to distract Guyanese from the exposure of its shadow Finance Minister, Sasenarine Singh, who was accused of taking bribes from a city businessman two days ago.”
According to McCoy, “all the key players in the AFC including Sasenarine Singh have serious moral and ethical issues, and it is just a matter of time before the revelations are made.”
He said the AFC is “obviously embarrassed” by this revelation which is indicative of the ‘skeletons breaking out of the AFC’s closet’.
“The AFC release highlights the party’s fear about the exposure of its shady deals and association with questionable characters,” McCoy stated.
He said it is unfortunate that the AFC supports attempts by the ‘hostile media’ to take photos of the visible assets of others but objects when there is an effort to secure information on their activities.
