IF Sunday’s cartoon that definitely caricatured President Jagdeo as a racist is not an act of utter recklessness and racism, then my perceptive understanding must have been shaped in another dimension. Kaieteur News has once again done, what it best practices – mislead, slander and malign.
In a nation that is still struggling to confront the beast of ethnic challenges, it is the height of journalistic irresponsibility to portray such a false and dangerous representation of the nation’s President. If this is what Kaieteur News is all about, then journalism has to undergo a defined name change.
Such a pictorial – vicious, wicked and offensive in its full design and intent, must be condemned by all peace-loving Guyanese, who ought to be offended by such a wanton misrepresentation, as it is bent in fomenting hate and ultimate internecine strife in this peaceful land. What benefit does this media extreme anticipate will accrue to the nation?
Again, this is taking advantage of press freedom. And yet, this very print medium house colludes with the political opposition and other forces to allege that there is no press freedom in Guyana.
I hope that the ERC will note this latest infraction and deal condignly with the publisher and editors, in addition to representative bodies of the two major ethnic groups. It is long overdue.
