THREE University of Guyana (UG) students appeared in Court yesterday, on joint charges of simple larceny and break and enter and separate charges of possession of cannabis (marijuana) and cultivating the prohibited plant. Karen Fiedtkou, 23, of Lot 47, Kester Bryan, 21 and Sanjay Surujpaul, 18, both of Lot 35, all of Fourth Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
They were not required to plead to the indictable offences, particulars of which said, on March 10, they stole a quantity of groceries valued $80,000 and a motor car, PJJ 4698 priced at $2.8M, property of Cleveland Mentore.
Another March 10 allegation against them said they broke and entered the dwelling house of Mentore and stole a car key and $300,000 cash.
Bryan and Surujpaul faced other charges that said, on March 11, they had two grammes of marijuana in their possession and cultivated the plant, they pleaded not guilty.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Mark Waldron, for the trio, said Bryan and Surujpaul are room mates and studying at UG, who were helping Fiedtkou to move.
The lawyer said Mentore and Fiedtkou are in a relationship but she admitted, to the Police, that she asked Bryan and Surujpaul to help her remove some of her belongings and the narcotic was found in the vehicle when the duo went to her assistance.
Bryan and Surujpaul were remanded to prison on the cultivating charge and granted $455,000 bail each on the other charges while Fiedtkou was ordered to post $450,000 surety.
All the cases will be called, again, on April 1.
