The Ministry of Agriculture says today mostly cloudy conditions with showers and intermittent
rain can be expected over Regions One to 10, while the long-term daily average rainfall for Georgetown, for the next 10 days, is 4.2mm per day. “Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, cloudy conditions becoming partly cloudy at times, with showers and possible intermittent rain, can be expected over Regions One to Six, Seven and 10. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with occasional showers can be expected, mostly over coastal and near inland locations,” the ministry said in its update yesterday.
According to the notice, rainfall stations may measure an average of 50.0 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour
period.
“In Guyana, local climatology indicates that the month of March is expected to have an average of 10 rain days (rainfall greater than 1mm). We are currently in a transitional period into the dry season, but because of La Nina conditions, brief, heavy showers, light continuous rain and afternoon outbursts of thunder will be experienced. In addition, most forecast models predicted La Nina to continue at least through the first quarter of 2011,” the update said. “As a result, wetter than average conditions are likely to continue to prevail over Guyana for most locations.”
The notice said that De Kinderen Back in Region Three recorded 227.0 mm (8.9 inches) of rainfall within 24 hours, which is the highest, while the average rainfall across the country for this period was 66.9 mm (2.6 inches) for the same period.
