THE mutilated and swollen body of a woman of African descent was fished out of a canal in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, yesterday morning. The body was clad in a green jersey and a black skirt. Next to the body was a red bicycle.
The woman’s face was disfigured and it is believed that the body was in the canal for sometime before it was spotted by residents.
The police were summoned and the body removed and taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour at about 07:30hrs.
Residents said she is not from the area since most of them gathered at the scene could not recognize her.
It looks as though she was the victim of a severe beating.
