Eyewitnesses saw man leaving NWD murder victim shack
EYEWITNESSES saw a man leaving the shack in which murder victim Lawrence Martindale, 45, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was staying at Port Kaituma, North West District, police reported yesterday. Martindale was fatally stabbed on Monday after selling fish in the area where he frequently went over the years.
At the time, he was in possession of some $100,000, proceeds from his fishmonger business, with which he was expected to return home this week.
He had left his home on Thursday and travelled to Port Kaituma where he reached on Friday and was the guest of a friend.
Police suspect that Martindale was killed in the process of a robbery, as no money was found on his body when it was discovered.
The man’s wife, Lorraine Martindale told the Guyana Chronicle she learnt of his killing from the police, who telephoned her, after finding his cellular phone with her number stored in it on his corpse.
The body of the father of six bore several stab wounds but no money was recovered from it, she said. (M. Outridge)
