$30,000 bail on receiving stolen property charge

Dexter Deen, 31, of 79 Stewartville Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, made his appearance before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin yesterday charged with receiving stolen property. He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on March 5, at Stewartville, he received one sheep, knowing same to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Defence counsel Mr. Harris made an application for bail, stating that his client has no knowledge about the sheep and rears only goats.
Prosecutor, Police Sergeant Sherwin Matthews, objected to bail on the ground that the defender is not a first-time offender.
The magistrate, however, granted the defendant $30,000 bail.
The matter was adjourned until May 17.
