THE table tennis training sessions in Linden took an upswing last Sunday when a team of officials from the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) including senior vice- president Harold Hopkinson, assistant secretary Linden Johnson and former national champion Colin France visited and interacted with players of all ages at the Linmine Constabulary Recreational Hall.
The session which ran from 09:00 h to 15:00 h saw approximately twenty-five players between the ages of 6 and 25 years being given expert instructions from national table tennis coach Johnson and team, along with resident coaches Raynor ‘Copter’ Anderson and Howard James.
President of the LTTA, Lethem Wilson, said that the sessions went well and urged that the players in the schools namely Linden Foundation, Mackenzie High, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary ‘Multi’, Linden Technical Institute and the Senior Supervisors’ Club make full use of the opportunities being given with the presence of the coaches in the schools during the week and at weekends.
GTA’S senior vice-president Hopkinson was also satisfied with the start of the schools programme in Linden and thanked the LTTA for making accommodation to have coaches from the central body in Linden to assist.
The sessions will again be held during this week at the various schools and clubs and on Sunday again at the Linmine Constabulary Hall from 09:00 h to 15:00 h.
On Monday, coach Howard James continued his workout at the Linden Foundation Secondary School from 14:15 h to 16:15 h and sessions for female players at the Mackenzie Sports Club from 18:00 h to 20:00 h.
He will again hold sessions on Friday at the New Silvercity Secondary from 14:15 h to 16:15 h and on Saturday the Linden Technical Institute players are expected to be at the Linmine Constabulary Hall for sessions from 09:00 h in.
Yesterday coach Anderson visited the Wismar Christianburg Secondary School. Today he will be at the School of Excellence, tomorrow at Mackenzie High, and Friday at the Senior Supervisors’ Club where the Linden Scouts will be in sessions.
