The Ministry of Labour is making all efforts to attain a 75 percent job placement rate as opposed to its current average of 65 percent while maintaining the provision of quality training that promotes confidence among employers. This was the aspiration expressed by Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir during a recent interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA) at his Brickdam Office.
To achieve its target the Ministry will also boost its efforts to enhance the services of the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA) commencing with a massive public relations programme to advance its services to more people throughout the length and breadth of the country.
Providing gainful employment with good returns through the (CRMA) is highly placed among the expectations of the Ministry.
Last November the CRMA made its services available online through a public/private sector modernisation and e-governance programme that would allow persons with access to the internet to make submissions if they are seeking employment from anywhere in the country.
Similarly, employers from anywhere in the country can access the services of the CRMA by posting their vacancies online without leaving the comfort of their offices.
“We want to let the population and both the job seekers and employers know about the online services of the CRMA,” Minister Nadir said.
To achieve this objective the Labour Ministry will be conducting job fairs to take the services of the labour department and the new services of the CRMA directly to the people.
These activities are expected to begin later this month with an outreach to Charity, Region Two followed by Bartica, Linden and New Amsterdam.
Making the services of the CRMA more accessible to the population represents Government’s response to the people’s needs for jobs, training and information, Minister Nadir stated.
The first set of outreaches, he said, will take the Ministry’s services directly to the people after which an evaluation will be done to determine its success before planning for the second half of the year.
The Ministry also catered for those persons who cannot have access to the internet as it has partnered with the Regional Administration to provide hard copies of the application forms.
In addition, the CRMA has a bank of computers so that persons can register at the office.
Over the period 2009 to 2010 the CRMA increased its job placement rate by 11 percent from a total of 2023 to 2270.
During the said period, registration also increased by 10 percent from 2732 in 2009 to 3003 in 2010 while notification of vacancies increased by 19 percent from 2479 in 2009 to 2972 in 2010. (GINA)
