JOSHUA Persaud, of Kilcoy Village, Corentyne, was sentenced to four months imprisonment after he confessed to a charge of simple larceny before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo in the New Amsterdam Court. Police Prosecutor, Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, said on February 4 last, Krishnanan Ramdass, a fisherman, left his seine, valued $12,000 in his garage, at his home at 2 Kilcoy Dam, and went out. On the complainant’s return hours later, he observed that the polyethylene net was missing. Following inquiries in the neighbourhood , the thief was identified and later charged with the offence.
Appearing in the courtroom, Persaud expressed regret saying he was attempting to meet the needs of his children.
