Prime Minister Samuel Hinds Friday met and interacted with a team consisting of several youths from Student Task Force (STF) who are visiting the country for a three-week period in an effort to provide several service projects to benefit the country and its citizens. The 16 volunteers are part of a year-long educational programme consisting of training and activities focused on transcending barriers among people of different religions, races, and backgrounds, to further the vision of building “One Family under God”.
STF participants are primarily high school graduates between the ages of 18 and 21, who defer college enrolment for one year or take a gap year during their studies. Its motto is “Generation of peace at your service”
The team comprises 16 members from various countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, the United States , Canada and New Zealand.
Member of STF, Reverend John Gehring, noted that some of the services would
include planting of mangroves through the President’s Youth Award: Republic of
Guyana (PYARG), working with Habitat for Humanity, and the Central Islamic Trust.
He pointed out that the team has so far been working with children and orphans from Joshua House and, simultaneously has been engaging in volunteer construction and painting on various facilities.
Gehring emphasised that the mission of the organisation is to promote strong bonds between North and South America, and encourage persons of all religious faiths to work together for a common purpose to promote unity.
Eunhwa Mouada, a young member of the team, noted that her personal mission is to spread love and peace in all countries, particularly Guyana, as it has a rich culture and diverse religious backgrounds and ethnicities. (GINA)
