A MOTHER of two died yesterday at her Norton Street Wortmanville home at the hands of her lover, making her the latest in a long list of casualties of domestic violence, and leaving her young children motherless in the process. Dead is Nathalie Loncke, 41, a teacher of the Albouystown Nursery School following a scuffle with her paramour, whose name has been given as Ubi Pilgrim. The incident reportedly occurred around 17:50h.
According to sources, Loncke was fatally injured during the scuffle when her assailant whipped out a knife and slashed her throat. This was after he’d slashed her eldest daughter, Renata Craig, who might have gone to her mother’s aid, across the face.
Neighbours said they saw Renata run out of the house holding her face and crying, but when asked what was wrong, all she told them was that her stepfather had slapped her. She did not ask for help either, they said.
The assailant, who has since fled the scene, is well known in the area, and reputed to be a chronic alcoholic and a smoker.
A tomb builder by profession, he is also said to have killed before.
Besides Renata, who is 19, her mother and siblings, Loncke leaves to mourn her five-year-old daughter, Cesaria. (Muna Nur)
