As the Government of Guyana begins to roll out its One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) programme, Kaieteur News has no doubt upped its campaign aimed at discrediting this noble effort. The question is why? With transparency and accountability being the scapegoats used to mask what is truly a self-centered agenda, the unsuspecting mind might buy-into this ploy. I did not, however. So when I learnt, through a usually reliable source at Kaieteur News, that the paper’s policy towards this particular project is centered on the refusal by the government to have the relative of an individual who helps shape the newspaper’s policies supply the several thousand laptops for distribution, it came as no surprise to me.
This gentleman made several lobbies which all but failed, and has decided, with much vexation, to use Kaieteur News as a means of discrediting the OLPF. The extent to which this entity has gone in obtaining information related to this project further underlines what was told to me. Further, I was told that the very prices being proffered as alternative cost prices in the various KN articles are the same as those submitted by the relative of this gentleman during his attempt to become the supplier.
I urge readers to be cautious about what they read and be wary of the self-centered nature of the folks that operate these entities.
