Mr. Navin Chanderpaul is encouraging political confusion in the sugar industry.

NO Presidential candidate needs to feel that as Navin Chanderpaul seems to suggest in Stabroek news of Monday, February 7 that success would depend on evidence of unequivocal support for the sugar workers. A PPP Presidential candidate has not surfaced who is hostile to the sugar workers. If Mr. Chanderpaul insists so he should identify that hopeful. The fact of the matter is that the PPPC Government has consistently supported the industry, displayed vision in the face of recent challenges and provided support during financial difficulties.
Mr. Chanderpaul pays lip service to the reality of the modern political struggle in Guyana.
A successful PPP candidate must be a President for all Guyanese, sugar workers, public servants, bauxite workers and fishermen. This has been the achievement of successive PPPC Governments and explains the likelihood of its re-election to office in the 2011 elections.
It is this reality that the Chanderpauls’ of today offend with their ill-concealed rejection of the national thrust of the Jagdeo led PPPC government. His language of unequivocal support is not consistent with the political realities of today’s Guyana.
