THE Guyana Power & Light (GPL), following a hoax at its Sophia Training School, Georgetown, yesterday condemned acts of terrorism and commended the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Bomb Squad, as well as the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) for their response. A staff member at the Sophia location had received an anonymous telephone call on Tuesday, around 11:30 hrs, about a bomb.
She, immediately, alerted other staffers, the GPF and the GFS, which, together with the Bomb Squad, responded quickly, GPL said.
The utility said the building and the compound were checked thoroughly by the joint team of professionals and were, subsequently, declared safe.
GPL said, after, that it wishes to encourage its employees to maintain their diligence and reassured them that management would continue to do everything to ensure their safety.
