Taxi driver charged with stealing $585,000 from passenger

TAXI DRIVER Fazil Mohamed (no address given) was ordered to post $125,000 bail yesterday on a simple larceny charge.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on January 7, he stole $585,000 from Goupanand Singh.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the defendant was hired by the virtual complainant, who he took to a National Hardware store.
The Prosecutor said Singh went into the business place and left the money in the motor car but, when he returned outside, the defendant and the vehicle had gone.
