NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Jamal Edmonds (no address given), who pleaded guilty to break and enter and larceny yesterday, has been remanded to prison pending sentence on January 31. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who convicted him of having broken into St. John the Baptist School, between December 29 and 30, 2010 and stealing booty valued $433,755, postponed sentencing him to get a probation report on his background.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the headteacher had secured the building and left but, later, received information that someone broke into it and The Prosecutor said the burglar was caught with a CD player in his hand.
The convict, however, claimed that the security guard on duty encouraged him to commit the crime and took some of the stolen things. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
