Cayenne-based spray-painter killed in Berbice

A Cayenne- based spray painter was killed instantly after an alleged drunk driver collided with his motorcycle and fled the scene, leaving his vehicle behind, on the Number 78 Village Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Rajkumar Basdeo called Roy, of 25 Line Path, Skeldon.

Berbice Traffic Chief Kevin Adonis told this newspaper that on Sunday, at 19:35hrs, Basdeo was driving his motorcycle on the western carriageway of the Number 78 Village Public Road when a motor van which was speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle, came into contact with him.
The injured man was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver, a known businessman, had reportedly evaded the police up to last evening.
Heerawattie Ramrattan, known as Dolly, reputed wife of the deceased, told the Guyana Chronicle her husband of six years worked in Cayenne, but would return fortnightly.
He came home just before Christmas Eve, and was expected to leave yesterday.
She said he worked as a spay painter, and was also into fiber glass fittings and boat making. According to the bereaved woman, she became worried after Basdeo did not return home hours after he had left with the motorcycle.

As a result she was looking through the window when a neighbour told her of an accident. On reaching the Skeldon Hospital, she was told that he had died and was in the mortuary.
Basdeo is survived by three adult children who reside overseas, his reputed wife, and her two sons, along with other relatives.
