…after police shut down too-loud music systems
Police have launched an investigation following the unsuccessful attempt to burn the Enterprise Primary School, East Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning.
The fire was set at about 04:00hrs yesterday. Police reported that the fire was observed by security guards on duty at the school and was extinguished by residents who formed a bucket brigade.
Two plastic containers with diesel were found in the building and are lodged with the police.
Meanwhile, residents said that several villagers were reportedly playing their music systems loudly and they summoned the police to the scene. It is alleged that after the music was shut down by the lawmen, the revellers became angry and decided to torch the school.
Reports said residents quickly put out the blaze before the fire tenders arrived on the scene. Later in the day police were at the school conducting investigations.
Residents said that they cannot understand the logic behind the attempt to burn the school since those who attempted to destroy the building have children who attend the school.
