In night robbery…
A QUEENSTOWN, Essequibo Coast family was attacked and robbed by a gang of five armed and masked bandits on Monday night.
Mrs. Nafeeza Zainool Motilall and her cousin, Ashley, 14, were sitting on the balcony of their house, watching a movie on a portable DVD player around 19:45 hrs, when they came under attack. She said two robbers put guns to their heads and ordered them not to scream, then dragged them into the house and bound their hands and feet with the telephone cord.
The woman, whose husband was not at home, said she was terrorised by the duo and forced to hand over money and jewellery, before being gun-butted and her mouth duct taped.
In all, she lost $1M worth of jewels and $30,000, to the thieves who also stole a laptop computer, the portable DVD player and a digital camera, among other things, before escaping.
The assailants were gone when the two robbery victims untied themselves and screamed for help.
Police are investigating the robbery. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
