Guyana’s two-man Judo team cop medals in Barbados Independence International tournament

TEENAGER Raul Lall, a member of the House of  Water Judo Club  and Bruce Fraser of Rising Sun Dojo coped gold and two bronze medals respectively when they competed in the Barbados Independence International dojo tournament held from 3rd – 4th December in Bridgetown. Lall won his medal in the individual Under 17 category and a bronze medal in the senior team competition, while Fraser copped his two bronze medals in the senior under 90 kg division.

Vice president of the Judo Association of Guyana (JAG) Geoff Sankies said he was elated at the team’s performance against stiff opposition from judokas from the United States, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Curacao and host Barbados.

According to Sankies, Banks DIH Limited was instrumental in the judokas attending the tournament, and in appreciation of the sponsorship, executives of the JAG and gold medalist Lall visited Thirst Park to display the medals won to officials of the company.

Communications Manager of Banks DIH Troy Peters lauded the two judokas for their sterling performance, while stating that they had done Guyana proud.

David Fraser, a former national judoka who now resides in Barbados served as manager/coach of the team.
