Wife assault, threatening charges against CMO dismissed
CHIEF Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Shamdeo Persaud, has been charged with unlawfully assaulting and threatening his wife, Romona Persaud.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Particulars of the offences said, the day before, on November 30, he  assaulted the woman and made use of threats, causing a breach of the peace.
However, after the allegations were read to the defendant, the virtual complainant said she did not wish to proceed with them.
With the CMO being represented by attorney-at-law Mr. Sajeev Datadin, the cases were dismissed and the husband and wife were ordered to pay $20,000 costs for wasting the Court’s time.
