Samaroo exhorts residents not to block waterways

THE Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has appealed to residents not to throw garbage, including old wood, tree limbs or pieces of old iron into the waterways, as the practice would impede the flow of water to sluices.
Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo said, reports have been received that a resident of Queenstown,
on the Essequibo Coast, cut down a large locust tree and left it to block the main drainage canal.
He said another report was about a Lima resident throwing pieces of old iron into a canal that leads to the sea sluice in that village.
Samaroo said such actions can cause flooding.
