Iranian delegation to intensify mineral mapping proposal

A delegation from Iran, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Behrooz Kamalvandi, met President Bharrat Jagdeo, Wednesday to continue discussions on fulfilling several of the Guyana/Iran agreements.
One such is the fulfillment of the proposed mapping of mineral reserves which will allow Guyana’s mining sector to have a much more planned development with greater benefits to the country.

An initial report on the process was compiled and presented to the Guyanese officials after a visit by a team from the Geological Survey of Iran in March this year. However, the Deputy Foreign Minister said the process must be intensified.
“This is one area we are going to follow up to see if there is going to be that possibility here,” the Deputy Foreign Minister told the Government Information Agency (GINA).
The delegation’s visit to Guyana will also include a discussion with other counterparts in the Guyana Government, such as the Foreign Minister, to continue the process of collaboration between the two countries.

“We are supporting each other in international arenas and international organisations. We think that the closer cooperation between our two countries can benefit our two peoples,” Minister Kamalvandi said.
The stage for partnership between Guyana and Iran was set earlier this year when President Bharrat Jagdeo, visited Iran and met the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and several of his ministers during a visit to the Islamic state early this year.
During discussions with President Ahmadinejad, commitments were made to optimize each other’s capabilities to help broaden mutual relations.
The Iranian president called for expansion of relations and cooperation in various fields with reliance upon existing potentials of both sides, while President Jagdeo called for expansion and consolidation of ties between the two countries and said both have wide scale potentials to bolster economic and commercial cooperation.
The Guyanese Head of State was on the final leg of his tour of the Middle East as he sought new frontiers for partnership. Prior to Iran, President Jagdeo visited Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). (GINA)
