Rice fields irrigation begun for Autumn crop sowing

VICE-CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Vishnu Samaroo has announced that the Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) Department has started to water farmers’ fields in preparation for the Autumn crop sowing. He said the exercise, which begun on October 15, is continuing.
Samaroo said the department did work in Coffee Grove on October 29 and PR6 and PR7 on November 2 and 8.
He said the operation in the downstream area was expected to commence last Friday and continue until all areas are fully irrigated.
The Regional Administration is, therefore, advising all planters that there is adequate water in the system but it must be conserved at all times, Samaroo said.
He also warned farmers not to vandalise D&I structures and said the Water Users
Association will assist in monitoring the network.
