MARVIN Williams, the prisoner shot and wounded during a failed escape bid last week, was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody.
Particulars of the offence said, on November 11, while being in lawful custody of policeman Anand Persaud, for trafficking in narcotics, he escaped.
The convict begged the magistrate to be lenient with him, declaring that he was frustrated and confused.
He had been previously given a three years jail sentence for possession of cannabis (marijuana) and asked for it to be served concurrently with yesterday’s but the magistrate turned down his request, resulting in the convicted man having to serve five years imprisonment.
