Prisoner bolts, shot in buttocks

A bolt for freedom yesterday by prisoner Marvin Williams came to a swift end when he was shot in the buttocks by police and subsequently caught.
Reports are too that a civilian was wounded in the toe.

A senior official at the Georgetown Prison confirmed that around 15:00hrs, Williams while being transported back to the Camp Street jail in a van managed to open his handcuffs.
As soon as the van stopped at the prison gate, he bolted north on Camp Street and east into Bent Street.
The police gave chase and shot the prisoner in the buttocks.

Williams was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he has been warded and is under guard.
The Chronicle has learnt that Williams, who was on remand on a narcotics charge, was taken to court in keeping with his court date and was given a three-year sentence.
