TWO men, posing as customers, robbed a woman of cash and jewellery, with a total value of $70,000, at her Lot 14 ‘D’ Willamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice business place, shortly after 11:30 h yesterday. Lakaranie Ishree, 55, was in the lower flat of a two-storey building, which also houses a grocery, when the unmasked robbers entered the premises and asked for two bottles of lemonade.
As the proprietrix turned to get the aerated drink, one of the duo placed a gun to her head and demanded money and jewels.
He was given $20,000 from a drawer and he removed a pair of gold bangles from the victim’s hands.
When Ishree ran over to her mother’s residence, across the street, she was followed by the attackers who fired in the air before escaping on foot.
Police later recovered a .32 spent shell from the scene.
