National cricketer throws support into Caribbean Fury 2

… punches $100 000 into card
NATIONAL Twenty20 cricketer and managing director of Star Party Rentals (SPR) Lennox Cush yesterday made a tangible donation of $100 000 towards Holland Entertainment Promotions’ (HEP) Caribbean Fury 2 which will be held at the Princess Hotel on Saturday.
At a simple presentation ceremony held in the office of SPR, manager Colin Archer presented Clive Atwell, one of the pugilists on the card which will have multiple world champion Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore take on Breilor Teran in the feature bout, with a cheque for $100 000.
In an invited comment via telephone, Cush, who is the only bowler to have taken two hat-tricks in Twenty20 cricket said he was pleased with the work being done by the head of HEP, Carwyn Holland, whose efforts as a promoter he described as fantastic.
“I believe that sports whether it is cricket, football, basketball, boxing or even squash can be used to promote unity among individuals.
“Having said that, I am also of the belief that Holland’s efforts as a promoter are fantastic as he has been promoting a lot of world championship boxers and with sports having done a lot for me in the past, I am always willing to give back to the community irrespective of the category of the sport,” stated Cush.
The former long distance athlete said he will continue to support sports and boxing in the future and congratulated Holland on conceptualising the Caribbean Fury which came into being last year, as he feels it’s an exemplary job being done by an enthusiastic individual.
Cush was a member of the Guyana team that competed in the Airtel Champions League in South Africa, while he had single-handedly guided USA to the ICC Division 3 World Cup playoffs with his all-round performance.
Holland expressed heartfelt thanks to Cush and his staff for their continued support and took the time to tag SPR as the official party services provider of the Caribbean Fury 2.
Holland also informed the media gathered that preparations for the card have been going great so far, with the overseas boxers, including USA-based Rawle Frank, beginning to arrive in the country today to keep their ring dates with their respective opponents.
Archer also made brief remarks in which he congratulated Holland for putting together another fantastic card to whet the appetites of local boxing fans and urged the promoter to continue to strive for excellence and greater heights, while expressing the company’s delight at being associated with the card.
The main supporting bout will see Guyana’s Women’s International Boxing Association bantamweight champion, Shondell ‘Mystery Lady’ Alfred clash with Columbian Olga ‘La Mona’ Julio in a six-round non-title confrontation.
National heavyweight champion Mitchell Rogers will do battle against Leon Gilkes, local boy James Walcott will face off with Trinidadian-based Guyanese Joel McRae in the lightweight category, Canadian Richard Reittie will tackle Guyanese Mark Murray, and Dominica-based Atwell will trade punches with Errol Trotman.
