Table-tennis scores big with Business Community

THE Guyana Table Tennis Association (G.T.T.A), yesterday, was the recipient of much needed funds as several businesses doled out one million, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($1,250,000.00) towards projects slated to be undertaken this year. Chief among the projects is the sending of a table-tennis team to participate in the Cecil James Open Competition which will be hosted by the D’ Abadie table-tennis Club this coming weekend in Trinidad and Tobago.

President of the G.T.T.A, Commissioner of Police Henry Greene received the timely donations in his conference room at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary from Brian Tiwari of BK International (Quarries Division) to the tune of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000.00), . Deonarine Sugrim of Agriparts for five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000.00) and  Mohadeo Umrou on the behalf of Umrou and Sons of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00).

Speaking on behalf of BK Quarries Inc. . Edgar Bazilio told the gathering that his company is very happy to make the presentation to the President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association and would like to pledge his company’s wholehearted support towards the development of table tennis in Guyana.
He further stated that having the Commissioner in the leadership role augurs well for the success of the G.T.T.A and concluded by wishing the Guyana team participating in this weekend’s tournament in Trinidad and Tobago well.

Responding to the gesture, Commissioner Greene, thanked the donors for supporting the GTTA at this time and was in praise of the wider business community which he said has contributed immensely towards the workings of the G.T.T.A within recent times.

Witnessing the presentation were Harold Hopkinson who also received airline travel tickets for the team travelling to Trinidad and Tobago. Pradeep Balram, Assistant Commissioner of Police. George Vyphuis,  Godfrey Munroe, Secretary of the G.T.T.A,  Coach Lindon Johnson and Edgar Bazilio of BK International were also present.

Several other projects which include sending a participatory table-tennis team to Suriname, an inter schools and corporations competitions and a champions tournament which will also cater for veterans will be executed by the G.T.T.A by the end of 2010
