…injunction granted against defendants
ATTORNEY-at-Law Mr. Basil Williams, a leading member of the Guyana Bar and of the Peoples National Congress Reform, and a Member of Parliament, has filed a libel action against the National Media and Publishing Company (printer and publisher of the Kaieteur News newspaper) and its editor, relative to an alleged libel published in the Kaieteur News. He says that the libel insinuates that the plaintiff received legal fees of almost $100M from an N.I.S. pensioner to free his son of a charge of murder.
According to the endorsement of claim, Williams is seeking damages in excess of one hundred million dollars for libel contained in the Sunday August 29th, 2010 issue of the Kaieteur News newspaper; of wide circulation printed and published by the First named Defendant, under the caption, “Locked up for five years’….a well learnt lesson…” printed and published of and concerning the plaintiff and in the way of his offices of Attorney-at-law, Member of Parliament and Vice Chairman of the People’s National Congress/Reform.
Upon an ex parte application, Judge Brassington Reynolds granted an injunction restraining the Defendants and each and every one of them, whether by themselves, their servants and/or agents, or other wise whatsoever, from publishing or repeating that libel.
