AN INMATE of the Georgetown Prison was further remanded in custody yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a drug charge.
Timothy Cort (no address given) pleaded guilty to being in possession of 22 grammes cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking on October 6.
He said he was given two packets of cigarettes while cleaning outside the penitentiary and guards found them in a search of his person.
Cort begged the Court for mercy, stating he only has six more months imprisonment to serve.
But Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the narcotic was in the defendant’s socks.
The magistrate changed Cort’s plea to not guilty and scheduled a trial for November 11.
