A NEW Amsterdam, Berbice waitress was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $2.7M last week, on conviction for drug trafficking.
Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo imposed the penalties on Pulmattie Harricharran alias ‘Shorty’, 43, of Lot 25 Charles Place, New Amsterdam.
The prisoner had been jointly charged with her reputed husband, Fidel Fitzgerald Glasgow, who was, previously, given a five years prison sentence for having 2,300 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) at their home, on March 12, 2009.
In her case, Police, acting on information received, went to her address and saw the mother of two attending to the product of the prohibited plant spread on aluminum sheeting inside her house.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, revealed that Glasgow, a deportee, was not present at the time but, subsequently, claimed ownership of the narcotic.
