– Radio Needy Children’s make donation
THE commitment by Guyanese to assist with the rebuilding of Haiti is still alive as was evident Wednesday when the Radio Needy Children’s Fund presented over $400,000 in cash to the Haiti Relief Fund, at the National Communications Network (NCN) on Homestretch Avenue.
Valerie Lowe, a representative of the National Committee for Haiti Relief who received the donation, expressed the Committee’s appreciation and noted that the donation is timely since Haitians are moving apace with the rebuilding process.
Chairman of the Radio Needy Children’s Fund, Mr. Mohamed Sattaur, said the organisation is pleased to make the donation from the money that was collected from Radio’s Needy Children’s Fund donation boxes in commercial banks countrywide.
He expressed appreciation for contributions made by members of the public and noted that the Committee will continue to serve needy children.
It has been nine months since a massive earthquake struck Haiti and decimated buildings and infrastructure across the country. Guyanese have since been contributing significantly towards Haiti’s relief in cash, food stuff and clothing and other materials to help the displaced.
The Government of Guyana was the first to commit US$1M towards assistance for the island territory and established a multi-stakeholder committee.
