Police intercept 2 AK 47’s, one UZI pistol, ammo

ALERT police ranks in Berbice, at about 22:00hrs Tuesday, intercepted a cache of arms being transported on the Adelphi Public Road, Canje East Berbice, Police reported yesterday.

The ranks had just completed initial investigations pertaining to a report of assault at Adelphi and were travelling in an unmarked vehicle when they observed two male suspects, who are known to the police, with a bulky bag.
One of the ranks approached the men who were on a bicycle. They dropped the cycle and started to run in separate directions. The suspect with the bag was pursued and caught, putting up a fight. In the process he bit two of the ranks on their hands.
The other suspect escaped.
A search of the bag revealed two AK 47’s, one UZ1 9mm semi automatic pistol, one twelve gauge shotgun and three live 12 gauge cartridges.
The suspect will be arraigned shortly, while the one that got away is been pursued.
