Swiss couple travelling around the world visiting Guyana

A COUPLE from Switzerland, currently travelling around the world on their mobile home called ‘Pepamobile’, is visiting Guyana.
Bruno and Renate Furer, who have gone to 50 countries up to now, including in Africa and Europe, since their epic journey began ten years ago, came here from neighbouring Suriname on Monday and plan to move on to Brazil via the Georgetown-Lethem trail.
The Furers first went throughout Europe and then some countries in Africa. They have, so far, visited seven countries in South America, including Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, French Guiana and Suriname.
They want to know more about the world and meet and experience other peoples cultures and ways of life and have met some “great families’, they reported.
Bruno said, for them, it is normal to meet new people every day, not knowing where they are going sleep at night.
He said, although some people say the world is very dangerous, their expedition has been safe although to find food and water can, sometimes, be difficult.
The adventurous husband and wife, married for 26 years, recalled that one of the most unforgettable places was in Antarctica where they encountered beautiful animal life and nature.
The Furers said they learnt about Guyana on the Internet but knew little about this country before arriving.
They have found Guyanese warm and friendly and the local environment relaxing.
They have also met with the Director of Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh, who enlightened them about ‘Destination Guyana’ offerings and provided them with tourist packages to help guide them during their stay here.
While in Guyana, they plan to explore its unique landscape and wildlife and visit several of its tourist attractions, among them the majestic Kaieteur Falls.
