8th NSC/Laparkan Cycle race programme

Greaves favoured to cart off top prize Saturday
JUDGING from his present form leading up to his departure for the Commonwealth Games in India next month, Roraima Bikers Club’ Alonso Greaves will be favoured to cart off the top prize in the feature race when the eighth annual National Sports Commission (NSC)-organised, Laparkan Holdings Limited-
sponsored cycle race programme pedals off around the inner circuit of the National Park on Saturday.
National cycling coach Hassan Mohammed has coordinated the programme which will have races for Veterans in both the Under-50 and Over-50 categories, as well as the BMX cyclists and juveniles of which  Kurt La Rose is the defending champion.
But certainly, the feature race which is an Open Invitational race that covers a distance of 35 laps will be the marquee event that will attract the attention of cycling enthusiasts, based on the performance of Robin Persaud who broke the timings record for the same distance last week.
One can expect Persaud, Eric Sankar, Jude Bently, Junior Niles, Leer Nunes, Albert Philander, Enzo Matthews and Geron and Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams (no relation), to provide sturdy opposition to Greaves in the feature race.
Both  Williams and Greaves are part of the cycling contingent that will compete in the Commonwealth Games and with their departure set for sometime next week, they will be looking to get as much training miles as possible before heading off to the Asian Continent.
The programme is scheduled to get under way at 09:00 h and all cyclists interested in participating are asked to wear their club colours and are reminded to have their licence with them before registering.
The full programme reads: 12 to 14 yrs Boys & Girls (3 Laps), Veteran Under 50 years (5 laps), Veteran Over-50 years (5 laps), Juveniles (10 laps), Upright Cyclists (5 laps), BMX Open, 12 to 14, 9 to 12 respectively (3 laps), BMX 6 to 9 (2 laps), BMX Girls 6 to 12 (I lap) and School Boys and Invitational (35 laps).
Representatives of Laparkan will be on hand to distribute prizes to the respective winners.
