NDIA working to repair damaged sluice door at Cunia

THE Ministry of Agriculture’s National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) said it is making every effort to rectify sluice doors at Cunia on the East Bank of Demerara that was damaged by the high tide earlier yesterday.
According to information received, water from the Demerara River is seeping below and through sections of the slice doors. The NDIA has already mobilised materials and other supplies to undertake emergency works and avoid any major intrusion of salt water.
In light of the current high tide alert in effect, the NDIA’s Engineers have been deployed to vulnerable areas along the coast to monitor sluices and other drainage structures. According to the Government Information Agency, the agriculture ministry is urging local government authorities and other agencies to be alert and monitor the situation closely.
