Agri team follows up with commitment to Pomeroon farmers

– following impact assessment of spring tide
FOLLOWING an assessment of the impact of the recent spring tides in Pomeroon, a team from the Ministry of Agriculture Saturday made available a quantity of supplies worth approximately $3M to more than 300 families in vulnerable communities in the Pomeroon River.

The support included dry ration, seeds, livestock assistance, chemicals and technical assistance as a means of ensuring continuity of farmers’ activities which were disrupted by the recent spring tide resulting from the overtopping of the banks of the river.

Communities that benefitted from support include Grant Victoria Lower Akawini, Grant Little Diamond, Grant Eversham, Grant Try Again, Grant Kitty, Grant Bun Bush and Grant Profit. Farmers in these areas were urged to form community groups and to coordinate assistance planned for the community.
The support resulted from an assessment mandated by the Minister of Agriculture  Robert Persaud , with senior technical officers from various agencies extending support to local government authorities in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five & Six. (GINA)
