THE first ever building exposition has come and gone but the positive impacts it has created continue to pave the way for emergence of a vibrant, new sector that is intrinsically linked with the level of development that is taking place in the housing sector. Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali said the building expo brought on “an awakening” with regards to the extent to which this new, emerging sector can transform the landscape of housing development in Guyana.
“Exhibitors are calling everyday to find out about the next building expo, they have all reported positive feedback and a lot of them have now developed linkages with companies in Suriname, Trinidad, and Brazil,” Minister Ali posited.
The four-day exhibition, staged in August, attracted participation from both international and local companies in the construction industry which capitalized on the venture to showcase their various equipment and services.
It was aimed at fostering home ownership, catapulting the construction sector, and creating linkages among local, regional and international stakeholders in the construction and housing sectors.
“All of this has shown that there is a direct link between the housing sector and the transformation that is happening in the economy,” the Housing Minister noted.
He added that Government’s commitment to develop the sector remains high priority.
The expo which concluded this evening at the National Stadium, Providence, saw thousands of patrons who were interested in construction materials that were exhibited by both local and international exhibitors. (GINA)
