Private Sector Commission also condemns Mangar murder

THE Private Sector Commission (PSC) is the most recent to condemn what it calls the callous killing of 21-year-old Demerara Bank Limited employee, Sheema Mangar.
A statement from the PSC urged the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to work assiduously towards apprehending the criminal(s) who have taken the young woman’s life.

“The PSC is calling on the general public and also advising them to be more vigilant in their daily activities. In addition, we are also calling upon them to cooperate in every way possible, with the Guyana Police Force, that will contribute to solving criminal matters and also providing information to the Police that will curtail criminal activities and behaviours which are emerging as a plague in our society,” the statement said.
The PSC extended its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the murdered woman.
The statement said: “We assure the general public that the Private Sector, through the PSC, will be working with the Guyana Police Force to help resolve any issue that will contribute to effective crime prevention and solution.”
Mangar, on her way home Friday, was in North Road, Georgetown, waiting for a bus when her Blackberry cellular phone was snatched.
She gave chase but the robber entered a parked car and, when she placed herself in front of it in an effort to stop him, she was run over and dragged several feet, from North Road to Church Street, along Camp Street, under the vehicle before it sped away.
Public spirited citizens rushed her to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), from where she was transferred to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and remained there until she died on Saturday.
