TWENTY-TWO- year-old Tricia Persaud, the mother who gave birth to triplets, all boys, on July 20 last, was yesterday discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after spending about five weeks receiving special care at the institution.
Persaud, of Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice, whose delivery at the hospital classified as ‘miraculous’, gave birth to the first of the three boys – a bouncing 900g baby, while travelling along the East Coast Demerara en route to the hospital.
She had reached the hospital compound when the other two boys were born, assisted by nurses who rushed to the vehicle, and weighing 800 g and 720 g respectively.
Until the time of their discharge yesterday, the triplets were kept in an incubator. But they are now healthy enough to go home, the nurses said.
Ms. Persaud was a mother of one before the triplets arrived. She disclosed that both sides of her family have experienced twin births. Considering the babies she dubbed her ‘miracle boys’ to be very special to her, she carefully chose names for them. In chronological order, they are Econ, Nathan and Neil, and now weigh 1kg 600g, 1kg, 300g, and 1kg, 600, respectively.
Ms. Persaud will be grateful for any assistance that kind-hearted persons may wish to offer her, a release from the hospital said yesterday.
