A route number 40 minibus conductor had a narrow escape Monday when he was stabbed in the face by a passenger who felt he had the right to travel and not pay the fare.
The victim, Jermaine Dover, 23, of Werk-en-Rust, was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Dover recalled that around 15:00 hrs, the man who had travelled on the bus got off at the bus park, opposite Salt and Pepper in downtown Georgetown, but did not pay the fare when called upon to do so. He became angry and abusive when Dover asked him for the fare.
An argument ensued and the irate passenger whisked out a pointed object and stabbed the conductor close to his temple. Late yesterday Dover was still at the hospital and his condition was listed as stable.
Police are investigating.
