… as General Marine female softball begins
ON Friday night the female leg of the General Marine softball competition started with two matches under lights at the GCC ground, Bourda.
The first 10/10 softball match was between Street Warriors of Lusignan and Trophy Stall Angels of Uitvlugt. Street Warriors, who are sponsored by Derick Auto Spares on Regent Street, were restricted to 62 for 7 batting first. S. Singh top-scored with 16. There was good bowling from Sunedo Nero, 5 wickets for 2 runs and Shanweza Azim 2 wickets for 8 runs off their allotted 2 overs bowling for Trophy Stall Angels.
Trophy Stall Angels romped to victory in the eighth over losing five wickets, with Cindy Chunoo leading the way with an undefeated 18.
In the second match Wellwoman XI who are sponsored by Mike’s Pharmacy made light work of 4R Lioness. Wellwoman XI, batting first, made 93 for 4 with Jann Vansartima top-scoring with 49 and Renika Isaac supporting with 20 runs.
4R Lioness in reply were restricted to 76 for 5 in their 10 allotted overs with only Tacy Glasgow showing some fight with 19 runs.
There was also a specially arranged match played between Floodlights A and B which had to be decided by a super over with Floodlights A eventually winning. During the course of the match the Guyana Floodlights Cricket Association (GFCA) made a contribution of $375 000 to the Guyana Relief Funds for Pakistan.
