Fury would not pay 15 pence for Haye-Harrison clash

BRITISH heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury has claimed he would not pay 15 pence to watch the WBA heavyweight title clash between David Haye and Audley Harrison.
It was announced this week that champion Haye would make a second defence of his title against fellow Briton Harrison on November 13 at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Fury, who faces American Rich Power at York Hall, Bethnal Green today, does not believe Harrison deserves a crack at Haye’s title and told the Sporting Life website: “I wouldn’t pay 15 pence to watch it to be honest. I’m not really too bothered who wins because by next year I’ll be knocking on the door myself.
“I’d definitely put up a better fight (against Haye) than Harrison. I reckon I could beat Audley Harrison, to be honest. But it’s about getting the chance to prove it.”
Fury explained why he felt Harrison – a 2000 Olympic champion but whose professional career was mixed at best – was not worthy of the opportunity, saying he had not done enough despite a relatively impressive year.
“I think it’s a farce, to be honest. I don’t think Harrison deserves a shot at the world title for winning the Prizefighter tournament and his European title, when his opponent was Michael Sprott, who had lost nearly all his fights abroad when it came to fighting Europeans.
“I don’t know how he can beat Michael Sprott and get a shot at the world title. It’s one of those things. He’s got the opportunity and he’s going to take it with both hands. Best of luck to him anyway!”(Eurosport)
