SCORES of rice farmers, who sold paddy to a miller at Le Resource some five months ago, have disclosed that the cheques with which they were paid have been dishonoured by the Anna Regina branch of Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), also on the Essequibo Coast. The complainants said their creditor, Wazir Hack issued the vouchers dated August 15 but GBTI said he had no money in his account.
They said their situation is very serious because they are unable to pay due bank installments on loans taken to cultivate their fields for the last crop and the interest is accumulating daily.
The farmers want Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) and the Rice Producers Association (RPA) to intervene on their behalf so they could be paid.
