Murdered gold dealer Ragoobar cremated on Essequibo Coast

With scores mourning…
THE body of murdered gold dealer Jainarine Ragoobar called ‘Jai’ was cremated yesterday afternoon at La Union foreshore.
The funeral service, held at his Fairfield home, also on the Essequibo Coast was attended by hundreds of Essequibians and other persons from outside the ‘Cinderella County’.
The corpse had, earlier, been transported from Parika, East Bank Essequibo, by speedboat and arrived at Fairfield around 09:00 h.
As the casket was taken into the yard, the murder victim’s wife, daughters and other relatives cried openly in the atmosphere of sorrow, sadness and grief.
Pandit Deodat Dhanraj, who officiated at the funeral, said the deceased was always a very religious person who lived the life of a true Hindu.
Dhanraj said Ragoobar’s death is only part of the life cycle as “whenever the Almighty calls us, we have to go.”
“He plucks the most beautiful roses from the garden to go and live with him,” the pandit said.
Scores of devotees from various mandirs on the Coast sang ‘bhajans’ (Hindu religious songs/hymns) while comforting the widow and other relatives. The eulogy was delivered by one of the dead man’s daughters, Sushelia.
The crowd of mourners at La Union foreshore gathered around to get a last glimpse of Ragoobar before his remains were placed on the wood pile and lit afire.
The blaze was the end of a father who loved his family and worked hard to maintain the members before his life was snuffed out by criminals who slit his throat and robbed him in the house at Bartica, Essequibo River, where he was staying while transacting business last weekend.
His fellow gold trader, Ramdeo Deonarine suffered the same fate.
A Police post mortem examination was performed by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh on the bodies of both men, and the cause of their death was given as “incised wound to throat and haemorrhage and shock”.
