Bench Warrant issued for three absent murder accused

At Berbice Assizes…
JUSTICE Brassington Reynolds, at the Berbice Assizes yesterday, issued a Bench Warrant for three absent accused in a murder case.
The men, Abdusalam Azimullah called Sato, Ganshan Jagassar or Suresh and Devindra Harrichand also known as ‘Bara’ are accused of unlawfully killing Gary Simon nicknamed ‘Fat Boy’ on December 12 , 2004, at Albion, Corentyne.
Before the judge acted, the marshal called the names of the trio thrice but got no response and   State Prosecutor Dionne Mc Cammon then requested that they be arrested.
The victim, together with his wife, Annette Samaroo, was cycling in Hampshire, Corentyne when he was killed.
At the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry (PI) at Albion Court, the charge was dismissed but it was instituted, again, on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Following a second PI, the accused were committed to stand trial for manslaughter but the DPP restored a charge for the capital offence.
Since then, lawyer Mursulene Bacchus and Chandra Lakha Ramdass have been charged with conspiracy to obstruct the course of justice, in consequence of an allegation that they induced Samaroo to give contradictory evidence at the pre-trial proceedings.
