Syfox murder trial voir dire
THE voire dire in the Lennox Syfox murder trial ended yesterday with the presiding Judge Roxanne George deciding not to accept the depositions of missing witness Rhea Rodney on the ground that the content was unreasonable.
Some days ago Prosecutor Latchmie Rahamat attempted to tender the depositions of Rhea Rodney under Section 95 on the ground that the witness who had given evidence at the Preliminary Inquiry was now out of the jurisdiction, and that her evidence was important to the State’s case.
Defence counsel Bernard De Santos,S.C., objected to the application on the ground that the content was inadmissible.
Following arguments in the absence of the jury, the judge discarded the entire statement and ruled that it was inadmissible.
The prosecution, led by Miss Rahamat, assisted by Miss Rhondel Weever, is contending that the State is out to prove that on the night of August 19, 2005,the accused, Lennox Syfox, went to 14 Golden Grove where it is alleged he wounded his children mother with a silver knife causing her to die from wounds received.
The eight- month old child which the mother was allegedly holding in her arms was also hurt.
Lennox Syfox was charged with a 2-count indictment involving murder of his children’s mother and unlawfully wounding his daughter, Analica.
One of the witnesses who testified for the prosecution yesterday was Sgt. Calvin Bailey.
Witness said that in August, 2005, he was at the Cove & John Police Station when he received a report of murder, committed on Roslyn Rodney.
Witness said that he visited the scene where he took statements from several persons.
The trial continues today at the Demerara Assizes.
