Laparkan makes annual bursary awards

THE Laparkan Group of Companies has once again recognized the importance of education by distributing annual bursary awards to students who were successful in the recent National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
Every year, employees from the company submit the names of their children who were successful in the NGSA to be apart of the company’s five year bursary award programme.
This year, Jibran Baksh took away the first prize after gaining 523 marks at the NGSA and attaining a place at St. Stanislaus Secondary.  Shaquille Lewis was awarded the second prize with a total of 498 marks and was given a place at Christ Church Secondary. The third prize went to David Budhram who attained 435 marks and will be at Stewartville Secondary School.
Executive Director of Laparkan, Vibert Parvatan, at the presentation ceremony, stated that the company upholds its mission statement and is obligated to satisfy customers, employees and the community.

Mr. Parvatan noted that the bursary awards over the years are ongoing commitments, making a difference for employees in a positive way and improving the educational background of the awardees. The programme started in 1997 and to date there have been 81 awardees.
“Success comes to those students who give priority to their studies, who are committed to obtaining knowledge and approach school work with enthusiasm and self discipline. We live in a world where competition is the name of the game, not only in the pursuit of education, but also in the work environment. I suggest to the awardees that you have an important role to play in what the future holds for you” said Mr. Parvatan.
The Director also highlighted some of achievements of the previous awardees who are in pursuit of higher education levels and encouraged the new ones to follow in their footsteps.
According to Mr. Parvatan the excellent performance of the many students who wrote various exams this year reflect creditably, not only on the students, but on Guyana’s educational system.
Other students who are a part of the five year bursary award programme were also presented with awards.
